When is a Humvee not a Humvee?
When it’s a brush truck.
At least, that’s the case when it comes to the latest addition to the Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department’s collection of response vehicles. Thanks to a Mississippi Forestry Commission grant known as the Firefighter Property Program, the Calhoun VFD was able to purchase “for a nominal fee" a Hummer from the United States Department of Defense acting through the Mississippi National Guard.
The VFD repainted the vehicle, equipping it with wildland firefighting tools such as a water tank, pump and hose reel.
Voila. A repurposed vehicle that will fill a needy niche.
Jones County faces numerous brush and woods fires each year. This unique vehicle will assist greatly in battling those blazes, easily traveling through woods and brush to access areas that could be reached by a fire engine or similar vehicle.
