VIDEO/PHOTOS: Reservoir firefighters said a couple and their dog were able to escape from a boat fire at the Barnett Reservoir on Wednesday, April 17.
Reservoir firefighters received a call about the fire around 1:15 p.m.
Reservoir Fire Chief Josh Swales said a man, his wife and their dog were able to jump out of the boat and into the water. They were rescued by nearby fishermen.
According to Swales, Reservoir police were able to hook up the boat and brought it to the Rankin landing by Shaggy’s. Firefighters used about 7,000 gallons of water and foam to put out the boat fire. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) was called to the scene. Swales said the agency will deal with the fuel that leached into the water.
According to Swales, about 100 gallons of fuel was on board and that was the main driving source of the fire.
