Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Great Falls on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. It happened along the 1800 block of Sixth Street NW at about 3:15 p.m.
Initial reports indicate that the fire started in a bush and spread to the rest of the home, destroying much of the inside.
All people and pets made it out of the house safely, and there were no injuries reported.
There was also damage to utility infrastructure outside of the home.
Responding agencies included Great Falls Fire Rescue, Great Falls Police Department, and NorthWestern Energy. Great Falls Fire Rescue says the fire caused "significant damage," rendering the house uninhabitable.
The two residents and two dogs have made arrangements for a place to stay.
GFFR says the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, but did not elaborate.

Custer County Fire, Montana DNRC, and BLM have partnered up to host a basic wildland fire class for high school students ages 16-18.
This class is open to any students interested within South East Montana. This class will get them a national certification as an entry-level firefighter. This course is 2 days long and will be Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
It introduces students to the basic concepts of wildland fire behavior, including: the primary wildland fire environment components: fuels, weather, and topography; how characteristics and interactions of fuels, weather, and topography affect fire behavior; and how fire behavior affects risk to firefighters. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: describe the basic terminology used in wildland fire; identify and discuss the fire triangle; identify and discuss key characteristics of the primary wildland fire environment components — fuels, weather, and topography.
