No injuries reported in Great Falls house fire


Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Great Falls on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. It happened along the 1800 block of Sixth Street NW at about 3:15 p.m. Initial reports indicate that the fire started in a bush and spread to the rest of the home, destroying much of the inside. All people and pets made it out of the house safely, and there were no injuries reported. There was also damage to utility infrastructure outside of the home. Responding agencies included Great Falls Fire Rescue, Great Falls Police Department, and NorthWestern Energy. Great Falls Fire Rescue says the fire caused "significant damage," rendering the house uninhabitable. The two residents and two dogs have made arrangements for a place to stay. GFFR says the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, but did not elaborate.

Basic wildland fire class to be hosted for high schoolers in southeast Montana


Custer County Fire, Montana DNRC, and BLM have partnered up to host a basic wildland fire class for high school students ages 16-18. This class is open to any students interested within South East Montana. This class will get them a national certification as an entry-level firefighter. This course is 2 days long and will be Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. It introduces students to the basic concepts of wildland fire behavior, including: the primary wildland fire environment components: fuels, weather, and topography; how characteristics and interactions of fuels, weather, and topography affect fire behavior; and how fire behavior affects risk to firefighters. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: describe the basic terminology used in wildland fire; identify and discuss the fire triangle; identify and discuss key characteristics of the primary wildland fire environment components — fuels, weather, and topography.

Red Lodge Fire Rescue, local agencies extinguish house fire, wildland fire


PHOTOS: A house up the East Rosebud Canyon is at a complete loss after going up in flames on Tuesday. Red Lodge Fire Rescue, Columbus Fire, Roberts Fire and Absarokee Fire responded to a report of a structure fire. On scene, crews found the home to be completely in flames. The house was unoccupied when the fire occurred. Firefighters extinguished a wildlife fire on a nearby hillside caused by the structure fire.

Small fire contained southeast of Seeley Lake


Crews from the Montana Department of Natural Resources responded to the Dolly Varden Fire southeast of Seeley Lake Tuesday afternoon. Officials say the fire is now 100% contained. The fire, which burned 1 1/2 acres, was reported at 1:50 p.m. and was caused by an escaped debris burn affected by heavy winds. Fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly but initially the fire posed risks to four structures. Seeley Lake Rural Fire District crews left the scene at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, while DNRC and USFS engines spent the evening mopping up, ensuring the fire was completely extinguished. Officials advise residents to burn safely and not to burn when winds exceed 5 mph.
