Bolivia Fire Department introduces new low pressure fire hose

The Bolivia Fire Department has introduced new low pressure fire hoses. The new Mercedes Textiles low pressure hose and Elkhart low pressure nozzles were installed on the front of the fire trucks. “This new 1,600 foot collection of hose is easier to maneuver with, less prone to kinks and requires less manpower to manage allowing Bolivia Fire crews more time to come and find you or your family in an emergency,” a statement read.

East Durham neighborhood sees slew of abandoned building fires with old church destroyed, 6 arsons last July

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A huge fire destroyed an abandoned church in East Durham and investigators are trying to figure out how it started. The blaze broke out on the corner of North Holman Avenue and East Main Street around 8 a.m. on Thursday. This isn’t the first time this neighborhood has seen a fire like this in an abandoned building. The church, near downtown, is completely reduced to rubble as crews spent the day tearing it all down. There’s no word on the cause yet, but neighbors around there said they’ve witnessed plenty of suspicious fires in recent months. Flames shot into the sky, sending firefighters rushing to the scene of this massive fire. Smoke was seen from miles away. And now, a charred pile of bricks is all that’s left. That old church was abandoned for years.

Charlotte police deaths hit home as local deputy, firefighter served with slain officer

VIDEO/PHOTOS: One of the four officers killed in Charlotte on Monday, April 29, when the officers were ambushed as they tried to serve a warrant, was Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Joshua Eyer, who had spent some time in Haywood County. A local sheriff's deputy and a firefighter who served with Eyer during different points in their careers are taking the news hard and will honor him later this week. The news of the fatalities Monday was bad, but it was especially hard for Clyde Fire Dept. Lt. Lloyd Messer. “Unfortunately, I found out through social media that he had ended up passing, and, immediately, I was just devastated,” he said Wednesday, May 1. “We're used to seeing death in our profession. But we're not used to seeing death in one of our own. It hurts. My heart literally hurts. It aches for just knowing what his family has got to go through now.”

Firefighters hoping to build more substations across Jackson County

Fire substations cost taxpayer money, but can save residents money, too. Not to mention lives and structures. A substation is a satellite of a full fire station. “A substation is essentially another fire station used to house fire apparatus and equipment, allowing for quicker response of resources in areas not near a main fire station,” Jackson County Fire Marshal Michael Forbis said. “It allows the fire departments to deploy resources more quickly to the community.” That can save lives and homes. The saving money part comes from improving a rural area’s insurance industry ratings. “For example, the Greens Creek substation, there was a lot of area there that was considered unprotected by the insurance companies,” he said. Insurance classifications determine how much residents pay for homeowners insurance.
