An apartment fire that injured a 40-year-old man last week in West Fargo has been ruled accidental. The cause of the fire on Feb. 28 was related to "smoking materials," Fire Marshal Dell Sprecher said in a news release Wednesday, March 6. Emergency crews were dispatched to the apartment fire at 1031 1st St. about 5:30 a.m. West Fargo police officers arrived first and bystanders told them a person was yelling from inside the apartment. A few feet from the door, officers found the fire victim and pulled him outside. The first firefighters at the scene found flames in a back bedroom and extinguished them. The apartment sustained moderate smoke damage. The victim was flown to a hospital in Hennepin County, Minn. Sprecher did not have an update on the victim's condition as of Wednesday.
