For the first time since the dramatic crash between a fire truck and a motorcycle earlier this month, the Fargo Fire Department is sharing more about what happened and what you can do to be safer on the road.
Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says, “I’ve actually had a number of those, close encounters.”
While he’s had close calls, Dirksen says in all his years driving fire trucks he’s never gotten into a crash in one. For three people on his team, that’s not the case.
“They were shaken up quite a bit. You never want to be the responder and be part of an accident,” explains Dirksen.
On Friday, April 12 a fire truck was responding to a structure fire when, according to official reports, the motorcycle side-swiped the fire truck. The crew inside sprung into action.
