VIDEO: A man was killed early Friday morning in Gilford when the tent he was in caught fire.
Firefighters said they were called to the scene on Liscomb Circle shortly before 3:30 a.m. for reports of a tent burning behind a home. A man in that tent did not survive, firefighters said.
The man was later identified as Wayne Miller, 67. The cause of his death was determined to be smoke inhalation, and his death was ruled accidental.
Officials told News 9 that the person was a friend of the homeowner.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials said they wanted to remind the public to use caution when using space heaters and be sure they are kept at least 3 feet away from combustible materials.
