This was no cat in a tree emergency call, rather, something much larger awaited firefighters and police officers at the end of a trail off Green Pond Road this week. Police and firefighters hiked into the woods to find a frightened horse that had fallen and become stuck, said Robert Sheard, director of the Rockaway Township Fire Department. “I’m sure the horse was petrified because it couldn’t stand up,” said Sheard. The call for help came in at 4:42 p.m. on Sunday. The rider did his best to keep the horse calm while help was on the way, authorities said. “They had to walk about a mile into the woods and they found a horse that was down between a tree and some rocks,” said Sheard. “It was trapped.” It was a joint effort between the fire department and police, said Police Chief Martin McParland. It happened on the Light Blue trail in the Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area.
