A home on Old Stage Coach Road was struck by lightning as a severe thunderstorm rolled across Sussex County early Thursday evening. Hampton Deputy Fire Chief Dave Korver said lightning struck the top of the chimney "and blew apart the top three courses of brick. There was a debris field on the deck, but no fire." He said some smoke was inside the home and nobody was injured. The thunderstorm moved across the county around 7 p.m. and dropped a half-inch of rain as recorded by the automated weather station at the Andover Aeroflex Airport. A similar National Weather Service station at the Sussex Airport recorded just under a quarter-inch of rain.
