A box truck hit a fire hydrant in Fort Lee on Wednesday and the driver fled the scene, part of a chaotic day of road flooding, with three separate water main breaks in the borough. The truck hit the hydrant at Myrtle and Lemoine avenues at about 2:20 p.m., Capt. Daniel Zusi said. Water flooded Myrtle Avenue and closed the road between Lemoine Avenue and Third Street. Zusi did not have additional information on the truck or driver. About an hour later another break happened on Fletcher Avenue, which Zusi said may have been related to the hydrant struck by the truck. Earlier in the day, a fire hydrant leak caused flooding at several businesses. Shortly after 10 a.m. a fire hydrant failed, flooding part of a shopping center on Lemoine Avenue, Zusi said. Much of the water flooded the shopping center's underground garage, he said.
