A forest fire that broke out Sunday in a remote area of Wharton State Forest has been fully contained thanks in part to some overnight rain. A forest service official told Fox29.com Monday morning that the blaze, which spread to 1,800 acres is “100 percent contained." Named the “Jack Swamp Fire" by New Jersey Forest Fire Service officials, the blaze ignited on Sunday southwest of Atsion Lake near the Burlington County and Camden County line in a remote part of Wharton State Forest. By 7 p.m. it grew to 250 acres and continued to spread during the evening before fire fighters and the rain slowed its progress. Authorities are investigating whether a lightning strike ignited the blaze. No homes or businesses were threatened. Route 206 was closed Sunday night in the are before re-opening on Monday.
