The Clifton Fire Department saved a home on Livingston Street early Friday morning thanks to the house's fire alarm.
Firefighters got the call around 2:17 a.m. for an activated fire alarm and when they arrived on scene, saw fire shooting out of a basement window, said Deputy Chief Ryan Fitzsimmons. The home was empty at the time because the new owners were finishing work on the house, the deputy chief said.
The fire began in the basement and Fitzsimmons said the fire had been burning long enough for some floor joints on the first floor to be burned away, which could have caused a dangerous situation. Floor collapses are more common when the floor joints are damaged.
