More than 100 participants left the Sussex Fire Department on Saturday minus some or all of their hair to raise funds for the department's annual drive for St. Baldrick's Day. According to Sussex firefighter Kayla Stahl, who organizes the event annually, the department has been hosting the St. Baldrick's Day fundraising celebration every year since 2013 to raise funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a non-profit group with a mission to "conquer childhood cancers." About two hours before the conclusion of the event, the collective fundraisers had already chalked up close to $41,000 in donations, with the goal to exceed last year's record of $45,000. Stahl said participating vendors from Scentsy and Origami Owls also gave portions of their proceeds to the event. Sussex Fire Chief Harry Thompson participates each year as the emcee, coordinating the auctions and the raffles during the day.
