Newark firefighters rescued a 6-year-old girl from an apartment building blaze last weekend. Although emergency responders managed to save the child, three families had to relocate due to fire damage, authorities said.
Newark firefighters first arrived at the origin of the fire, 48 South 12th Street, around 5:05 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities soon upgraded the incident to a second-alarm; 65 firefighters eventually responded to the scene, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.
The fire spread to two nearby buildings at 46 and 50 South 12th Street. Each building is a three-story, multiple-family residential home, authorities said.
At 46 South 12th Street, firefighters encountered a 6-year-old girl who was trapped on the third floor of the building. After rescuing the girl, emergency responders treated her on the scene.
