Las Cruces Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday evening at a motel on the 1700 block of W. Picacho Avenue. The occupants of a New Mexico State Police unit (NMSP) passing by the location, noticed smoke and fire coming from the rear of the motel complex. NMSP requested fire response and evacuated occupants. LCFD Squad 3 was the first unit to arrive and reported a working fire in the rear of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished by Engine Company 3. The fire burnt through power lines. El Paso electric was called to secure the power to the structure. Hot spots were extinguished and people were allowed back into their rooms. Seven units and 22 firefighters responded to call, along with one ambulance from AMR and LCPD.
