New Mexico hospitals have warned repeatedly, with cases on the rise, they could get overwhelmed.
Hospitals like Lovelace in Downtown Albuquerque are seeing slight decreases in COVID-19 hospitalizations they are warning we are still not out of the woods. Chief Medical Officer at Lovelace Hospital Dr. Vesta Sandoval said, “We are right on the edge of being able to handle or maintain the degree of number of patients that we are seeing. If the numbers start to increase again there’s a very high likelihood that we would not be able to manage the number of patients coming into the hospital.”
According to Lovelace Hospital, although they are not in crisis standard of care right now, they could get there very easily.
“We have a slight plateau, whether that’s going to last or not it’s very hard to say it all depends on if people wear their masks if people socially distance wash their hands and most of all get vaccinated,” Sandoval said.
