VIDEO: Truckee Meadows Fire and the Bureau of Land Management have contained a structure and brush fire in Cold Springs, north of White Lake, off US 395. Flames were reported about 5 p.m. Tuesday at 18850 Cold Springs Drive, west of West Aspen and north of Pinon Pine. Drivers are asked to avoid East and West Aspen until further notice.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Truckee Meadows Fire spokesman Adam Mayberry tells KOLO about one acre burned, including sheds, outbuildings and a travel trailer.
He says access was difficult, with power lines and barbed wire in the way. There are no hydrants in the area, so water had to be trucked in.
A propane tank also presented a threat to firefighters, on top of exploding ammunition in at least one of the buildings. There were toxic materials on scene, plus debris that got in the way.
