The Reno Fire Department participated in the Shamrock Shave today, to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Firefighters from other cities as well as RFD have been longtime supporters of the event. Brandon Fernandez, a firefighter with Reno Fire Department, mentioned that this event really hits home for him and he tries to go every year. All of the proceeds from today's event will go towards the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The ninth annual event is hoping to raise $30, 000 this year. The Northern Nevada Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society also sponsored the event, by selling t-shirts and hats to help raise money. Shamrock Shave organizers have helped raise over $200,000 in the first eight years of this event.
