Alpine fire survivors will have to wait a few weeks more before seeing their property again.
A judge determined this afternoon, that several steps must happen before anyone sees their personal items.
"My client feels terrible that these people have been displaced, have been left for months without their goods. It’s why we took the affirmative step to say—let’s put an end to this," said attorney Steve Jaffe who is representing owner of the Alpine Motel, Adolfo Orozco.
But there are two main problems with this goal.
The first, the defense says asbestos was found inside the building, causing a potential health hazard.
And the second, the attorneys representing the victims and their families, want it done right.
"We have to make sure we preserve this evidence first, that’s important," said Robert Eglet, a senior partner with Eglet Adams who is representing at least 38 claimants in the fire.
