Henderson’s Fire Department has implemented new technology to get to you faster.
It’s called Safety Cloud. It sends a notification to drivers within about one mile of the department’s emergency vehicles when their lights are on.
“We’ve all been there when all of a sudden there’s an emergency vehicle behind us and we didn’t hear them,” the Department’s Division Chief of Logistics Richard Johnson says. “In our line of work, seconds matter.”
The notification will come up on the screen of cars 2018 or newer, or on a cellphone for those using Apple Maps or Waze, Johnson says. “Our cars are getting built so well that you can’t hear the outside environment coming in, so it allows us to penetrate that bubble,” Johnson says.
Over 65,000 cars have been alerted so far, according to City of Henderson Officials.
