VIDEO: Fire crews respond on a regular basis to fires set intentionally, but the reasons they get lit, often differ. “Sometimes people start fires against structures. Sometimes they burn vehicles for insurance. And sometimes they use arson to cover up other crimes,” said Reno Fire Marshall John Beck. On national arson awareness week, Beck discussed the problem of arson locally, saying about 25% of fires tend to be started by arson. Beck says one good thing when it comes to arson investigations, has been technology helping in investigations. “There is a lot technology like motion activated lighting and ring cameras,” Beck said. “They can help us make a positive identification on somebody.”
