Each wreath crafted by Kate Thompson is customized. Monday, she drove two-and-a-half hours from her hometown of Findlay, Ohio, to Anderson Township. She came to show examples of her work and how the finished products will look at an upcoming fundraiser. "We're going to have this base, a styrofoam base," Thompson explained as she crafted a wreath. "Then you're going to push them into the styrofoam piece about an inch apart."
Thompson wants them to be personal pieces of art.
"I like everything to be -- not one-of-a-kind -- but kind of one-of-a-kind where it's not manufactured from a machine. There's love in every single wreath that I make," she said.
This Saturday, Thompson will share that love of making wreaths with more than a hundred people. They will make red line wreaths in honor of firefighters, American flag wreaths and many that represent the "thin blue line."
