A fire and emergency services levy may be in the works for the Tiltonsville Fire Department to provide better service to residents. At a Tiltonsville Council meeting Tuesday evening, village solicitor Edward Littlejon Jr. said a question was asked to him about whether or not the Tiltonsville Volunteer Fire Department could have a fire and emergency services levy put in place. Littlejon said that only a taxing authority can put on a levy which includes municipal corporations or a joint fire district. “The Tiltonsville Volunteer Fire Department is not a taxing authority, so they can not put a levy on,” Littlejon said. “What we can do is the village of Tiltonsville can put on a fire and ambulance services levy and then they can contract with a fire and EMS protection agency to provide those services. The revised code is clear on who can put on a levy and what the levies can be for.”
