Granville Township Trustees rejected the latest in a series of contract proposals from the Refugee-Canyon Joint Fire District to continue fire and EMS service to northern Union Township at a significantly reduced rate. On Feb. 3, fire district officials voted to accept a 30-day contract to continue Granville Fire Department coverage at the same coverage level, and at the same price of $821 a day, Granville Township Trustee Rob Schaadt reported at the Feb. 12 Granville meeting. However, on Feb. 6, fire district officials then extended an offer to Granville for service beyond that 30-day period. As described by Schaadt, “They have a proposal to us for a period after that 30 days (ending March 8) that for up to 90 days, they would like to have us continue to service the same area, the same coverage area, minus fire inspections and permitting, but instead of $821, they would pay $320 a day or about 40% of what they currently pay.”
