Fire Chief John Wright provided members of Village Council with numbers about mutual aid calls during Tuesday’s meeting. The issue of mutual aid ambulance calls to Steubenville also has been raised during recent Steubenville City and Wintersville Village council meetings. Wright said the number of requests for his department were 160 in 2019, and of those 160, the village’s department responded to 54 of those calls. Wright said the policy of the department is the ambulance is not allowed to leave the village unless there is a crew covering. “That is my policy,” he said. “The taxpayers are paying a 2 percent income tax — we have to make sure we have coverage here.” Wright and Assistant Fire Chief Jim Raha also raised concerns about occupied structures in the village that do not have potable running water.
