It was in 1999 when the McKinley Heights Fire Department and the Mineral Ridge Fire Department came together to form the Weathersfield Township Fire Department. Township trustees at their meeting Tuesday recognized the 20-year anniversary of the combined fire department that now has three fire stations in the community and has marked many accomplishments over the years. Fire Chief Tom Lambert said the department responded to 973 calls in 2019, which is the highest call volume for a non-paid department in the county. “There has been cost savings by combining the departments into one 20 years ago. We have been able to share equipment and get savings when we purchase items,” he said. The McKinley Heights Fire Department was established in 1950 on the east side of the township, the Mineral Ridge Department in 1953 in the center of the township and the West Park Station in 1983 on the west side of the township.
