A Sunday morning fire in Walnut Hills caused over $163,000 in estimated damages to a building that is linked to a 1984 murder. Around 50 firefighters arrived at the 2800 block of May Street around 2:00 a.m. for a report of a fire. Several surrounding electrical lines limited access to the building, firefighters said. The bulk of the fire was out within 45 minutes, but firefighters let the fire burn through the roof so they could gain access to the building. Firefighters say they remained at the scene for a couple of hours until all of the hotspots were extinguished. The estimated damage to the building is $163,023. The cause of the fire is unclear at this time. Hamilton County Prosecutor Mark Piepmeier confirmed that the building is where the body of 15-year-old Tonya ‘Tonnie’ Storey was found in July of 1984.
