An 80-year-old woman and a boy slipped on ice and fell on a trail in two separate incidents at Multnomah Falls on Friday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The woman suffered a leg injury. She was carried off the trail on a wheeled-stretcher. The Forest Service said she was in good spirits.
Earlier in the day, a boy fell about 20 feet after he slipped on ice in the switchbacks above Benson Bridge. He suffered bruises and a cut to the head.
"In the lower elevations, we have ice," Forest Service Protection Officer Ed Wieringa said. "In the higher elevations, we have snow. Prepare for wintry conditions."
Wieringa says the boy who fell was wearing flat-bottomed sneakers.
"The trail became icy around switchback 6 and 7," Wieringa said. "We don't recommend hiking further than the Benson Bridge with small children."
Hiker Tobin Greensweig says he felt a little under-prepared, but was able to reach the upper viewing platform at Multnomah Falls by taking his time.
