Early Saturday morning, Ted Alan Jarrett allegedly manufactured marijuana by-products involving hash oil that set a downtown Eugene building on fire. Over the years, there have been many hash oil incidents that have led to serious injuries. In 2017, Eric Scully was sentenced to seven years in prison for setting a storage facility on fire when he was making butane hash oil. One dispensary owner explained the legality of the production of hash oil. “It’s totally illegal for the average citizen to use butane to extract cannabis and make BHO on their own,” said co-owner Travis MacKenzie at TJ’s Gardens. MacKenzie said that in Oregon a person must be licensed by the OLCC as a recreational processor and licensed by the OHA as a medical processor.
