Batteries from a Tesla involved in a high-speed car crash were launched into two nearby residences on Tuesday, Nov. 17 in the 800 Block NW Walnut Blvd.
According to the Corvallis Police Department, Dylan Milota of Corvallis was driving 100 mph and lost control. His car clipped a power pole and knocked down two trees and a telephone junction box. The batteries were then launched from the car and broke two nearby windows. One battery landed in a person's lap and the other on a bed, catching the bed on fire.
A tire was also ripped from the car during the collision and hit the side of a nearby apartment complex, causing the water pipes in the wall to rupture. This destroyed a bathroom and flooded the downstairs portion of the apartment.
According to officials, Milota ran away from the scene but was eventually located three blocks away. He was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Officers say he was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.
