Lane Professional Firefighters Association rallied on Highway 126 and Territorial Highway in Veneta on Saturday. This was organized to encourage the public to vote yes on Measure 20-320. "This levy would allow the department to keep their current staffing and add three more full-time firefighter paramedics," said member Katy Johnson. "If we are unsuccessful in getting the levy, we have potential staffing cuts in the future." If this bill passes, it would tax 35 cents for every 1000 dollars worth of property. "For a $300,000 home, that would be around $8.70 a month," said Johnson. "I like to equate this to less than two Starbucks drinks per month." Johnson said that call volume has increased during the pandemic and that this bill would help to expand their services. Johnson said they previously attempted to pass a bill that would tax 50 cents for every 1000 dollars worth of property during the fall election, but they were unsuccessful.
