The Albany Fire Department is burning down the house — as a learning experience.
On Saturday, April 13, Albany fire crews will perform scenario-based live fire training on a home at 1024 SE Main St., according to an agency news release. Owned by the Boys & Girls Club of Albany, the house being burned is no longer habitable, the release states. Tax records show the organization bought the property for $95,000 in 2012.
The training is intended to give firefighters an opportunity to practice interior and exterior fire attacks, apparatus water supply skills, search and rescue of victims, observing fire behavior and setting up ground ladders, according to the release.
The fire department is expecting at least 17 personnel and three apparatus to attend the training event, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Sandy Roberts.
