VIDEO: Crews responded to Northeast Portland early Wednesday morning after an equipment malfunction led a large stump to fatally crush a homeowner. According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the Technical Rescue Team went to the home to assist in the removal of a 1,200-pound stump that left one person dead. The incident happened at some point Tuesday night when the homeowner was working under the stump alone and the safety equipment failed, authorities said. Officials said the incident was discovered in the morning by the person’s spouse.
