The Oregon Department of Human Services is offering a $10 million grant toward building up "Resilience Hubs" - community centers and organizations that offer help like shelter or food during a disaster.
"Forest fires, heat domes, landslides, floods, drought, pandemics -- all natural disasters that kill thousands of people and destroy billions of dollars of property and habitat each year. That’s why it’s important that each community builds up its resilience to these hazards," the ODHS said in a press release Wednesday.
The funding, called the Resilience Hubs and Networks Grant, offers ten million dollars to eligible people and organizations. The money comes from an approval during the 2023 Oregon Legislature.
The ODHS says the funding aims to build resiliency within communities.
