PHOTOS: Fire crews with the Sweet Home Fire District and the Oregon Department of Forestry responded on Wednesday afternoon to the third and largest area brush fire in just a week’s time, authorities said.
Fire officials said they responded to the reported fire in the area of Wiley Creek at about 3:20 p.m. on March 20. Initial reports said a large fire had broken out on the Wiley Creek 240 road at mile marker 8, fire district officials said. SWFD authorities said responding firefighters arrived to find a fire encompassing about five acres burning in logging slash to the south and on steep terrain. As of 7 p.m. that same evening, the fire had expanded to encompass about 10 acres but no structures were threatened, authorities said.
