Despite receiving only one-third of the $1.2 million requested for a new aerial ladder fire truck in a state grant application, city officials are confident they can place an order for a new truck this year. The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the city a $420,000 Local Share Account grant toward the cost of a tractor-drawn truck in March. Council in January approved the transfer of about $422,000 from an essentially defunct revolving loan fund into the city’s Community Development Block Grant fund to be used toward the fire truck purchase if the LSA grant application wasn’t approved or the full amount of the request wasn’t awarded.
