Homemade chocolate chip cookies, brownies and sugar cookies. Nothing says thank you quite like a home-baked, delicious cookie. On Feb. 10, during a special “Hearts for Our Heroes” reception at the Newtown Township building, parents and students from the Howard Hersch Religious School at Congregation Brothers of Israel delivered a heartfelt thank you to their local heroes with words, music, handmade notes of appreciation and more than 500 home-baked cookies. “This is to thank you - all of our first responders. We appreciate everything that you do,” said Janet Barudin, who co-chairs the congregation’s Caring Committee with Amy Stinson. The first responders beamed with pride as they listened to the words and music and accepted the posters and decorated cookie boxes from the youngsters who made sure each firefighter, police officer and EMT had something to take back to their headquarters. Represented at the event were members of the Newtown Borough and Newtown Township police departments, the Newtown Ambulance Squad, the Newtown Emergency Services and the Newtown Fire Association.
