The New Florence community is mourning the loss of its longtime fire chief.
According to the New Florence Volunteer Fire Department, fire chief Keith Boring died Wednesday from COVID-19. Boring, 56, had spent more than 20 years as the department's chief and more than 30 years serving in the department. "He took care of the community in more than just one way here at the fire department," New Florence Deputy Chief Phillip Ferris said. "If you needed help with something he would be there."
Ferris told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 Boring owned an auto repair shop in the borough and dedicated his time to helping the community. Ferris said Boring became ill from the virus and was eventually hospitalized.
"COVID-19 is so unpredictable in the way it affects people in different ways," Ferris said.
