Mayor of Wilkes-Barre responds to fatal fire at Genetti's, victim identified

City of Wilkes-Barre first responders were called to a serious structure fire at the Genetti Hotel Complex located at 77 E. Market Street. Due to the fire, approximately 125 people were displaced from the apartment section of the complex which contains 104 rooms. Tragically, there was one fatality as a result of this incident. The fire victim was identified as Larry Wilson, 67, of Wilkes Barre. The autopsy determined that the cause of death was smoke inhalation. The Wilkes-Barre Police and Fire Departments were able to evacuate about 85 people from the complex; four of them had to be evacuated by a Fire Department ladder truck. Both the State Police Fire Marshall and the American Red Cross were called to the scene for assistance.
