A dramatic crash led to the rescue of a driver in Bristol Borough Tuesday night.
Police, fire, and ambulance crews were called to a reported wreck in the 200 block of Walnut Street at 10:07 p.m.
Crews arrived to find a passenger van had struck at least one tree, overturned, and caught fire. The driver was trapped inside, Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack said.
The van appeared to be traveling the wrong way on the one-way street before it struck a tree and came to rest against another tree on the sidewalk, Slack said.
Local residents sprang into action and extinguishing the vehicle fire before emergency responders arrived, the chief said.
Firefighters worked together to stabilize the overturned van and clear a large number of tree branches. A hose line was strategically placed to provide fire protection during the rescue operation, Slack said.
