The Eureka Volunteer Fire Department provided an update Sunday about the massive warehouse fire that broke out in Stewartstown Saturday.
Fire Chief Todd Gibney said that as of noon on Sunday, firefighters are no longer working 4-hour shifts to keep crews on scene. "However, we are checking the site frequently and will continue to do so for the next several days," Gibney wrote in a Facebook post. The Eureka Volunteer Fire Department mentioned that the fire will continue to smolder and flame for days: "It is not a realistic expectation to completely extinguish a fire of this magnitude. However, all smoldering areas are contained within brick/concrete walls and cannot spread. So again, please DO NOT call 911 to tell us the building is smoking or there is smoke in your neighborhood or you see a small area flaming inside the building. We know and we are checking on it periodically."
