It was a frightening morning for a Monroe County couple after their home caught fire.
Officials say while the two were injured during their escape, several pets did not make it out.
28/22 News Reporter Julie Dunphy spoke with the fire chief who helped rescue one of the residents.
“I got here and there was a male in the front yard, and a woman hanging out of the first division window,” Jackson Township Fire Chief Cliff Oppelt explained.
Two people in Jackson Township made the ultimate escape Tuesday morning.
Just before 10:00 a.m., a fire ripped through their home on Cays Road, trapping one, and forcing the other to jump out of the second story.
Chief Oppelt and two other firefighters rescued the woman safely with a ladder on the property.
