PHOTO: Crews from Berks County responded to a fire at a barn early Sunday morning.
According to the Earl Township Volunteer Fire Co., the fire was reported around 1:42 a.m. in the 200 block of Sunset Hill Road.
Firefighters arrived to find the barn totally engulfed and worked until around 6 a.m. to bring it under control.
According to Earl Township Fire Chief William Campfield, many goats inside the barn were rescued, but a number of them did not make it out alive. Equipment, such as tractors and mowers, was also destroyed in the fire, Campfield said.
Several other departments were called in to supply water to the barn as it is located in a very rural area, according to Campfield.
No residents or firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
