Starting Thursday night Providence Police and Fire are coordinating with the state fire marshal to crack down on illegal fireworks and noise complaints. Fireworks have become a familiar sound across the state as of late including in Providence. “Every night it’s crazy that there’s just fireworks all the time, all night long!” said resident Michaela O’Donnell. Police and the fire department are responded Thursday with the creation of a new task force to try and root out the problem. “It would be nice if they stopped,” said Michaela Baril. “Or at least like didn’t go until two in the morning.” Starting Thursday night about a dozen providence officers were out on the streets specifically to respond to any noise complaints. Though sparklers are legal in Rhode Island, many are setting off illegal fireworks which have become more readily available with the cancellation of so many summer events.
