Multiple residents are displaced after a house fire in Warren. One of them is Derwin Gonzalez, whose first thought was his daughter as fire tore through their home. “I reassured her that she didn’t have nothing to worry about,” he said. “I just held her until she was calm.” Warren firefighters responded to reports of flames on the second floor of the house on Market Street at the corner of Benefit Street around 7 on Saturday night. “Within about five minutes of dispatch, had the bulk of the fire knocked down,” said Warren Fire Department Chief James Sousa. “But there was some extension up into the attic area and the walls. That’s what took most of the time.” The damage is concentrated on the upper floors. “The first floor apartments have very little damage,” he said. “Water and smoke damage, that’s all.”
