A woman has died after being pulled from a house fire in Warwick Thursday, the Warwick Fire Department says. Family members identified her as 37-year-old Shaylyn Schoonmaker, a Warwick schools bus driver and lunch server at Sherman Elementary. "Every time you saw her she was smiling," said principal Charlee McElroy. "She was a great caretaker for all of us." McElroy, who described Schoonmaker as a hard worker who would do anything for anyone, said the loss is devastating for the school community. She said students often referred to her as "Ms. Shay." "It's going to be hard without her," McElroy told NBC 10 News Thursday. "We're going to miss her a lot." Family members said Schoonmaker went back inside to save her pets after the fire broke out inside her Chesterfield Avenue home around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.
