Statistics show hundreds of police officers and firefighters saying "no thanks" to the COVID-19 vaccine. So what’s behind their decision?
One big factor is those first responders have questions about the vaccines, just like many Americans do, and may want more information before deciding whether to get the shots.
Another factor is that many have had the virus and recovered.
"It’s definitely a concern of ours," Providence Firefighter’s Union President Derek Silva told the I-Team of vaccine refusals.
About 35% of Providence, Rhode Island firefighters have declined the vaccine so far, according to stats from the City. Silva said he is fully vaccinated and encourages others to go ahead and get the shots.
"I got my second dose of the Moderna vaccination at the end of January. Mild side effects," he said.
