The Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs held an event on Saturday honoring firefighters.
It's the first ever celebration of service celebrating all members of the Rhode Island Service past and present.
Organizers read the names of 143 firefighters, who gave their lives while protecting others.
Gov. Dan McKee read the keynote address and U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse. U.S. Congressman James Langevin, and U.S. Congressman David Cicilline read opening remarks.
The event was held at the Firefighters Memorial in Exeter which was dedicated in 2019.
A spokesperson for the association said more than $300,000 was raised to complete the memorial.
