A timely response by firefighters is being credited for keeping a Sunday afternoon basement fire inside a Shepherd Drive home in South Kingstown under control.
“It was a very fast fire attack which saved the house,” Battalion Chief Keith Maine of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown told NBC 10 News. “Lucky enough, we have a crew on during the day. They got here quick, the second engine got in right behind them. They pulled the line in, made a quick knockdown.”
Maine said a district volunteer who was nearby called in the situation as a “code red,” prompting crews to make a second alarm fire response.
The homeowners were in the house when the fire broke out in their basement and also called it in, Maine said.
They were able to evacuate the home safely, and no one was injured.
