Providence Water said a chlorine alarm went off Thursday morning at its treatment plant in Scituate. A representative said 911 was called and the plant was evacuated. A minor leak was found during an inspection. Providence Water said repairs are being made. Providence Water said there was no threat to public safety and that there was no impact on water service. "Providence Water is also working with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to ensure there are no environmental impacts," the representative said. The Hope Jackson Fire Department, the Cranston Fire Department Hazmat unit, and the Coventry Fire Department Hazmat team responded.
